Sons and Daughters Day – August 11

The best gift you can give your sons and daughters is time. This is an excellent day to let your children know how glad you are to be a part of their lives, hear the events of their days and share family stories.

The origins of the day are unknown, however, it has been celebrated since 1936 in various parts of the U.S. Other influences of this obscure holiday may include Bring Your Son/Daughter to Work Day and Father-Daughter/Mother-Son Days.

Although distancing guidelines and visitor restrictions have made it difficult to stay close this year, there are still great ways that grandchildren and adult children are able to stay connected to grandparents or older parents. Get creative with your outdoor social distancing visits (community permitting) and play Tic Tac Toe on a window, dress up in costumes and host a window parade, or bring your pet, lawn chair, and cell phone for a face-to-face window call.

Don’t let the miles keep you apart either; you can call, text, Facetime, email, or write letters to each other. Reminisce about your proudest/ silliest moment or favorite memories together.
